SIZE GUIDELINES

How big should you go?

Bigger is always better. Here’s the least room your herd needs, and what we’d pick for them.

Guinea pigsMinimumPreferred
1–22×3 Small7.5 sq ft · 27″ × 41″2×4 Large10.5 sq ft · 27″ × 56″
32×4 Large10.5 sq ft · 27″ × 56″2×5 XL13 sq ft · 27″ × 71″
42×5 XL13 sq ft · 27″ × 71″2×6 Jumbo16 sq ft · 27″ × 84″
  • Boys need more room. For a male pair or an all-boy group, go up one size.
  • Plan for at least two. Guinea pigs are happier and healthier with a buddy.
  • A grid is bigger than a foot. Each grid is 14″ square, so a 2×4 grid cage is larger than 2×4 feet.
