I don’t hate this product. I definitely feel like there has to be a better option. My pigs fit through the heart holes and easily climb over the top. They spend most of their time sleeping, peeing, and pooping in this thing. While I don’t necessarily mind the extra hide away, it ruins the hay quickly and there’s significant waste. As reducing waste was the purpose of this purchase, I don’t think it’s that helpful. I have it attached to the top of the cage as instructed. I’ll be swapping to a hay bag instead.
Thank you for sharing your experience. The Hearty Hay Buffet is intended to hold a protected supply of cleaner hay alongside generous piles of loose hay, rather than to contain all of the hay in the cage. Babies, smaller guinea pigs, and particularly adventurous pigs may be able to climb through the openings or over the top.
